You’re So Gay! I Know I Am, That’s Because I Like Men!

OMG! The kids of today; you really do just want to throttle them when they come out with statements such as: that’s so gay or don’t be such a gay or my writing is so gay or... actually I’ll stop before I scream. Why is everything so gay? Where did this come from that the word “bad” or “strange” was suddenly swapped for “GAY”. If you look up gay in a dictionary you will find these meanings:

• Having or showing a merry, lively mood: gay spirits; gay music.
• Bright or showy: gay colors; gay ornaments.
• Given to or abounding in social or other pleasures: a gay social season.
• Licentious; dissipated; wanton: The baron is a gay old rogue with an eye for the ladies.
• Homosexual.
• Of, indicating, or supporting homosexual interests or issues: a gay organization.

Synonyms

1. Gleeful, jovial, glad, joyous, happy, cheerful, sprightly, blithe, airy, light-hearted; vivacious, frolicsome, sportive, hilarious. Every time I hear someone using gay in the wrong context it really does annoy me. Some people should think before they speak as sometimes it can come across offensive. Normally I would rant about the disrespectfulness of some people and how ignorant they are, but I basically just wanted to point out the true meaning of the word GAY!
